Momentum Health, administrator for Momentum Medical Scheme, has renewed its commitment to mountain biking in South Africa, extending its partnership with Dryland Event Management to 2029. The agreement sees the health division of the Momentum Group retain the title sponsorship of the Momentum Medical Scheme Tankwa Trek, presented by Biogen, the Momentum Medical Scheme Cape Pioneer, presented by Biogen, and the Momentum Medical Scheme Attakwas Extreme, presented by Biogen, for an additional three years.

“We are excited to announce that Momentum Medical Scheme’s sponsorship of the Tankwa Trek mountain bike race will be extended for a further three-year period,” Damian McHugh, Chief Marketing Officer for Momentum Health, said. “We are passionate about health, and this race, and its sister events, the Attakwas Extreme and the Cape Pioneer, are such perfect opportunities to remind people of the health benefits of exercise.

“The riders who come out here, to the Koue Bokkeveld, to share in the beauty of this rugged landscape with us, leave with their minds and souls refreshed. While also having had the opportunity to test themselves against some of the best amateur and elite mountain bikers in the world, on routes through pristine natural veld and the orchards which produce South Africa’s best apples,” McHugh continued.
“One of the aspects of the Momentum Medical Scheme sponsorship we are most proud of is the community engagement,” he noted. “Local communities are involved in and benefit from the events. Not just here at Kaleo, during the Momentum Medical Scheme Tankwa Trek, presented by Biogen, but also in the Garden Route and Klein Karoo during the Attakwas Extreme and Cape Pioneer. From aiding in logistics and operations, to providing the catering services and marshalling the routes, Dryland ensures that local people are hired whenever possible, and this injects a much-needed financial stimulus into rural communities.”

“Our first sponsorship agreement with Momentum Health was signed in 2016 and commenced with the Momentum Medical Scheme Tankwa Trek, presented by Biogen, in February 2017,” Henco Rademeyer reflected. “The new extension thus takes us to ten years of collaboration, and it has honestly been one of the most fulfilling partnerships I’ve had the pleasure of working in. Momentum Health has elevated our events, not only by providing long-term stability in an uncertain industry, but more personally, through the attention to detail and skills from sports events beyond cycling, which the individuals we work closely with bring to our bike races.
“It has been a pleasure to work with Damian McHugh, Nadia Swart, Carel Bosman, and their teams! Their expertise from sports, as different from cycling as cricket, has been invaluable in elevating the participant experience at our events. Momentum Medical Scheme’s close working relationship with Biogen has also been tremendously beneficial over the last seven years, as the title and presenting sponsors have always been happy to collaborate, sharing both ideas and building on each other’s activations.

“Personally, I have many proud memories to reflect upon from the partnership with Momentum Health,” Rademeyer smiled. “Looking back at some of the riders who have worn the leaders’ jerseys at our races, I can safely say that we have hosted the world’s best. Take 2017, for example, when, in the first year of our partnership, now double World Champion Alan Hatherly won the Momentum Medical Scheme Cape Pioneer, presented by Biogen, alongside Matt Beers. We have also had the honour of hosting the greatest cross-country racer of all time, Nino Schurter, here in the Bokkeveld, as well as Tour de France winner and Olympic champion, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, Kate Courtney, Filippo Colombo, and many, many more.
“I’m sure the next three years will bring more highs, and I look forward to working alongside the Momentum Medical Scheme team to take the event experience, not only for those elite racers, to new heights,” Rademeyer concluded.

The Momentum Health sponsorship extension was announced during the 2026 edition of the Momentum Medical Scheme Tankwa Trek, presented by Biogen.
