With Gravel/MTB distances of 100km, 65km and 45km, two Cannondale gravel bikes up for grabs and the final round of the 2026 Stellantis Adventure Series on the line, the Magalies Adventure offers a fitting end to the cycling year.

The Magalies Adventure takes place on Sunday, 29 November, at Galloway Gardens alongside Black Horse Brewery near Magaliesburg. With three Gravel/MTB distances, a competitive series finale and the Black Horse Brewery Christmas Market adding to the atmosphere, it offers an appealing day out for riders and their supporters.

Whether you’re a competitive racer chasing a result, a committed Weekend Warrior looking to test yourself against the clock or a recreational rider keen for a rewarding day on the bike, there’s a distance to suit your ambitions. The 100km, 65km and 45km options can each be tackled on either a gravel bike, a mountain bike, or an eBike, allowing riders to choose their preferred challenge.

The event is also the fifth and final round of the 2026 Stellantis Adventure Series, where the inaugural champions will be decided and substantial prize money is at stake. You don’t need to be contesting the series to enjoy the occasion, though. For many riders, the appeal will be the chance to finish the year with a competitive outing, ride with friends and experience the atmosphere of a major cycling event.

A RIDE FOR EVERY LEVEL OF AMBITION

The three Gravel/MTB distances cater for different levels of fitness, experience and ambition. The 100km route offers a substantial challenge for riders looking to push their limits, while 65km provides a competitive test without the commitment of the longest option. The 45km route is an appealing alternative for those who prefer a shorter ride.

For Weekend Warriors, these distances offer the chance to line up alongside competitive riders, challenge personal limits and enjoy race-day atmosphere without necessarily having a series championship at stake. Riders looking for a less intense experience can choose their distance and enjoy the outing at their own pace.

The 45km event also serves as the final round of the 2026 Luxliner Schools MTB Series, which has given regional high schools opportunities to compete against one another over marathon distances on non-technical routes. The year’s school competition concludes at Magalies Adventure, with top-performing schools rewarded with Luxliner transport services in 2027.

A SERIES FINALE WITH PLENTY AT STAKE

The Stellantis Adventure Series adds another dimension to the event, with the inaugural men and women’s champion set to take home R100 000 and a total championship prize purse of R350 000 across the series.

Just 16 points separate the top three men after four rounds. Dan Loubser leads on 93 points, with Phil Buys second on 81 and Alwyn Steenkamp third on 77, setting up a potentially decisive final round.

The arrival of Travis Rademan Ludeke, winner of Round 4, and Jordan Boschoff, who claimed Round 3, has added further intrigue. Both will be looking for another victory, while the leading contenders will be focused on securing the points needed to improve their final standings. Additional prize money for the leading performers on the day means there is plenty to race for beyond the overall title.

The women’s competition has its own storyline. Nicolette Griffioen dominated the opening two rounds, securing maximum points, before Sam Sanders won Rounds 3 and 4. Although Sanders can no longer close the gap sufficiently to claim the overall series title, race honours and cash prizes remain up for grabs in the finale.

TWO CANNONDALE GRAVEL BIKES UP FOR GRABS

There is an added incentive for participants in the 2026 Stellantis Adventure Series: two Cannondale Topstone 2 GRX gravel bikes, each valued at R35 000, will be awarded through a lucky draw at the Magalies Adventure prizegiving.

Every series event entry counts as one draw entry, so riders who have entered three rounds receive three chances. One bike will go to a male winner and the other to a female winner.

Winners must be present at the prizegiving to claim their bikes. If a selected winner is absent, another draw will be conducted.

MAKE A DAY OF IT

The Magalies Adventure coincides with the Black Horse Brewery Christmas Market, giving competitors and supporters more to enjoy at the venue. Competitors receive free entry to the market, while supporters qualify for a discounted entry rate.

Trail runners can also take part, with 5km and 10km options, plus a 15km run-only event, broadening the appeal for families and supporters who prefer to explore the Magaliesberg on foot.

With the series champions to be crowned, school cycling honours to be decided and three Gravel/MTB distances to choose from, the Magalies Adventure brings together competitive racing and an accessible end-of-year cycling experience.

The Magalies Adventure takes place on Sunday, 29 November 2026, at Galloway Gardens, alongside Black Horse Brewery near Magaliesburg.
