South African cycling accessories brand, Ryder Innovation, has won a Eurobike award for the second year in succession. The Groove Tool Pro was named winner of the prestigious Eurobike Innovators Prize at the 2022 edition of Eurobike, the world’s largest bicycle exhibition, in Frankfurt, Germany on Thursday.
This follows the same award that Ryder Innovation received in 2021 for the Luberetta, a clever chain lubricant applicator that’s since gone global. The Groove Tool Pro is a super compact, lightweight tool with a range of functions that is designed and manufactured in South Africa.
Thousands of products were entered into the Innovators Category and the Eurobike awards system required public voting as an additional step in the judging procedure this year. South Africans may recall seeing calls for votes on social media during late June. A combination of public votes and the deliberation of a panel comprising five experts determined the final award placings.
“We are delighted with the award. To win the same prestigious award two years in a row with the same brand is pretty special,” said Mark Nel, National Marketing Manager for Omnico, the company that owns the Ryder Innovation brand.
“Our company founder and CEO, Alan Hodson has always been focussed on finding ways to improve products in the cycling industry but still keep them affordable. He was at Eurobike, along with the Ryder Innovation product team to receive the award. There’s widespread interest in the product, which is fantastic for the brand and South Africa,” added Nel.
