The inaugural Garden Route Giro is officially underway. Spanning six days of gravel racing through the Garden Route and Klein Karoo, the event has drawn a diverse and determined fiel, ranging from passionate amateurs to seasoned professionals, all equally committed to the challenge.
TREAD Media secured a media entry for the race, and we’ve sent someone well equipped to take it on. Jesse Joubert, a Johannesburg-based multi-discipline athlete, will be capturing the experience from inside the peloton, sharing a daily reel that brings the race to life from his perspective.
While Jesse isn’t chasing a podium finish, he brings the kind of strength, fitness, and resilience needed to see the event through. Just as importantly, he knows how to tell a story. As the owner of a podcast studio in Joburg, Jesse understands the power of narrative and the growing importance of video in modern media. He also runs a dynamic personal Instagram account and is collaborating closely with TREAD Media’s platform to deliver daily race content.
Stage 1 delivered a relatively short opening test under favourable weather conditions. An early drivetrain issue cost Jesse some time, but he rode strongly to recover ground by the finish – an encouraging start to what promises to be a demanding week.
For those curious about his setup, Jesse is shooting with a DJI Osmo 360 POV camera, alternating between a handheld stick and, at times, a more unconventional mouth-mounted angle to fully immerse viewers in the ride.
Catch his Stage 1 reel and follow along as the journey unfolds.
