David Hogan had a good reason for not being able to complete his race run at a 2013 DH National at Thaba Trails, just south of Joburg in Alberton. – Dino Lloyd

Here’s his version of what happened to his back wheel:

“What happened was, there was a weird rock section with two rollers into a wooden pallet jump just before the rock.
“Some of the guys where jumping the two rollers throughout the weekend. I’d been hitting it fine throughout the weekend, until race my run, where I cased the second roller and I pinch-flatted as I did so. I was also going too fast to stop on the lip of the wooden pallet, so I hit the pallet and as I landed, my rear wheel exploded!! And that’s about the gist of it! Race over.”

Miraculously David still manages to land it and stay on the bike, completely obliterating the rear wheel in the process though. Photo: Dino Lloyd

One trashed wheel, albeit still in a semi integral shape considering the impact and damage sustained. Photo: Dino Lloyd
