Winter is undoubtedly here, but the Fedhealth MTB Challenge on 7 and 8 September 2019 is worth diarising because it’s become the Western Cape mountain bikers’ favourite way to welcome spring.

Now in its fifth year, the Fedhealth MTB Challenge will once again take place at Boschendal Estate, the historic Franschhoek venue, fast becoming a South African mountain biking hot-spot. The race village remains at The Retreat at Boschendal, and the routes will once again traverse the same world-class trails as the past two years.

Boschendal is not only one of the most scenic venues to ride a mountain bike, it’s also one of the most stimulating, with an established network of high-quality trails both on the expansive Boschendal property and in the neighbouring Banhoek Conservancy, incorporated on both the half marathon and marathon routes.

Once again, the Fedhealth MTB Challenge will offer a range of events to cater for all ages and fitness levels. There are kids’ events over 500 metres (0-5 years), 1.5km (6-9 years) and 5km (10-13 years), a 15km Fun Race (300m ascent), 28km Half Marathon (800m ascent) and 60km Marathon (1900m ascent). These take place over two days to ensure that all family members can enjoy the event, both on the bike and off it.

Boschendal’s culinary reputation is unmatched, so expect to enjoy access to fine wine, cold craft beer and sumptuous foods. Boschendal is famous for its picnics, which you can book in advance to secure your post-ride spot under the generous shade of the magnificent Boschendal trees.

All entrants in the 15km, 28km and 60km events will receive a goodie bag, including an event t-shirt. All finishers in all events receive a commemorative medal. There’s free post-event massage for all entrants and a Fedhealth Kids Zone with child minders to ensure parents get time to enjoy the riding. Fedhealth members get a free event entry and access to the Fedhealth VIP Zone.
