The picturesque Meerendal Wine Estate was buzzing with excitement on Saturday, 03 September 2016 when junior mountain bike enthusiasts of all ages gathered to partake in the much anticipated Fedhealth Kids MTB Events.
“The day was action packed from start to finish,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “We were overwhelmed by the support that the Fedhealth Kids MTB Events received with entire families joining in on the fun. Witnessing the interaction between mothers, fathers and children is a heart-warming experience. We are proud to say that the future of mountain biking looks really good.”

According to Jeremy Yatt, Principal Officer of Fedhealth, the kid’s race might have been aimed at the little ones, but there was nothing small about it. “It was encouraging to see so many youngsters involved,” says Yatt. “It bodes well for the prospect of a healthier, more active future generation of adults. In addition to the kids grabbing their opportunity to make the most of a fun day out with both-hands, or feet rather, it was really amazing to see so many families spending quality time together in the fresh air. We thank everyone involved in making the day memorable.”
Each Fedhealth Kids finisher was awarded with an event medal, a sweet treat and a special Fedhealth branded gift.
According Henry Owens (10) the race was really nice. “It wasn’t challenging. You just had to do your best. My MTB hero is Nino Schurter.”
Henry’s twin sister, Amélie Owens (10) was also seen having fun out on route. “My MTB hero is James Reid,” says Amélie. “The event was great. I liked the downhill, but I don’t like up-hills. More children must take part in mountain biking because it’s an amazing sport.”
