The Boland Gravel Monster takes place at Welbedacht Estate Schalk Burger and Sons on 10 April this year and has seen a remarkable entry uptake since its launch two weeks ago! The race is limited to 1000 entrants and riders who would still like to be on the start line need to get to the entry site at http://www.cycleevents.co.za/mtb-events/boland-gravel-monster-2022/#more-26576  to secure an entry.

The Gravel Monster constitutes arguably the toughest yet most rewarding single-day challenge on a gravel bike in South Africa. We invite 1000 brave souls to embark on the ultimate gravel bike challenge over a distance of 150km and 2000m vertical ascent, traversing some of the most beautiful hybrid riding terrain in the Boland.

The route has been designed and will be managed by seasoned route director Pieter van Wyk, who fulfilled the position of route director at the Absa Cape Epic for a number of years and also manages affairs on the Val de Vie MTB Expedition, Cederberg 100 Miler as well as the Imbuko Big 5.

Van Wyk has an intricate knowledge of the gravel network in the Boland and has crafted a perfectly balanced mix of provincial and privately owned gravel roads, easy-riding jeep track and quiet tarred roads.

The Boland Gravel Monster is a very special 150km journey and consists of 85km gravel and 65km tar.Mountain-bikes are welcome and riders who enter the Gravel Monster before 2 February will receive a 20% early bird entry discount and get a Ryder Tubeless Repair Kit free with their entry.
