Launched in 2007, Lezyne is a US brand with its HQ in Reno, Nevada, its factory in Taiwan and distributors in 64 countries. It was launched because the founder, Micki Kozuschek, who had recently sold his components brand, Truvativ, to SRAM, felt the accessories standards in the industry needed improvement.
At a time when poorly engineered, plastic catalogue-copied accessories were the standard, Lezyne’s goal was to engineer and produce premium quality accessories that meet the same high standards as high-end bicycle components. Lezyne’s goal was Engineered Design.
“With Lezyne, when it says 1000 lumens on a Lezyne bike light, it really is 1000 lumens. Not just initially, but for the whole ride,” said Victor Momsen of Two Wheels Trading, the South African distributor of Lezyne since the brand launched in 2007.
“Lezyne is unique in that it’s a tools and accessories brand that owns its own factory. All of Lezyne’s products are manufactured and assembled at its factory in Taichung, Taiwan, or by working closely with nearby vendors that produce parts exclusively for Lezyne.
“For product design, functionality or durability, Lezyne is all in. Yes, you might pay a bit more, but that’s always justified. You just need to ask anyone that’s purchased a Lezyne product,” added Momsen.
Designed in the US and manufactured to precision in Taiwan is a sweet-spot combination. All of Lezyne’s products that contain any metal, including floor pumps, mini pumps, tools and lights are CNC machined to exacting standards. This gives Lezyne a competitive edge in terms of speed to market.
With Lezyne, there’s always a quest for perfection. Using lights as an example, Lumen drop off happens because of a build-up of heat. So Lezyne machined its light bodies to better manage the heat and retain the actual lumen volume. Have a good look at the Lezyne lights and you will see they’re different to most other light brands.
