After more than three decades of dedicated service, Johan Nel has stepped down from his role as General Manager, passing the baton to industry veteran Stuart Weaver, who joins the company at a pivotal time in its evolution.
Nel’s tenure spans over 30 years, including the company’s earlier years operating as Probike. Throughout this period, he has been instrumental in shaping the organisation into one of South Africa’s most respected cycling distributors. Under his leadership, SCOTT, Syncros, and Maxxis have grown into leading brands within the local market, supported by a strong and loyal nationwide dealer network.
Taking over the role is Stuart Weaver (pictured), a respected figure in the South African cycling community. While new to SCOTT Sports Africa, Weaver brings extensive industry experience, having led sales operations for Specialized in South Africa for more than 15 years. More recently, he co-founded and grew Beyond Bike, a successful cycling tours and bike rental business.
Weaver’s appointment reflects the company’s commitment to building on its strong foundation while accelerating future growth. In his new role, he will focus on reinforcing the market position of SCOTT, Syncros, and Maxxis, while also driving expansion into new sports categories under the SCOTT brand.
“After 35 years in the cycling industry, I am embracing this pivotal moment in my journey with great enthusiasm. I look forward to tackling new challenges and building lasting, high-value relationships with colleagues, retail partners and consumers alike,” says Weaver.
This leadership transition marks a new chapter for SCOTT Sports Africa – one that honours its legacy while embracing innovation, growth, and continued excellence in serving the cycling and broader sporting community.
