It feels like God orchestrated events, and I was called upon to join the Cape Epic – the legendary eight-day race that most riders only dream of. Absa has so generously offered me this extraordinary chance to test myself, learn quickly and grow. I’m determined to savour the experience while keeping my nerves in check and ensuring a good night’s sleep.

Conditioning and training have become my life lately. Every morning, I rise early on the dusty roads of Windhoek, engaging in back-to-back intense training sessions that leave my legs aching. I follow a strict rule: Jackie, one day at a time. I’m also making an effort to go to bed early, knowing I’ll need every ounce of recovery once we arrive at the race village.

My story holds significance for me. It’s not just about race numbers; it’s about the sisterhood and cycling community that is growing and the lessons, the courage and determination of those around and those little chats before they pass or I pass, it’s about representing Namibia as a rider and expressing my gratitude for Absa’s unwavering support. I understand that I’m carrying more than just my bike I’m carrying the unwavering support of my family, the encouraging messages from my friends, and the quiet hope that this experience might open doors for others back home.

As I wrap up a project at work, sleep becomes my final training session. Regardless of the outcome over these eight days, the Epic has already transformed me, and I’ll always be deeply grateful. I am in disbelief.
