There are bike races and then there’s the TIB Berg 100. Few events strike the balance between challenge, scenery, community and pure country charm like this Midlands classic. On Saturday, 21 March 2026, the Berg 100 returns for its 13th edition, inviting riders from across South Africa to line up in the shadow of the Drakensberg for a day that always feels memorable.

Set in Nottingham Road, deep in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, the TIB Berg 100 is more than just a race – it’s a pilgrimage for riders who love the open road, who crave long steady climbs, and who appreciate the authenticity of an event built by and for a passionate local community.

NEW VENUE

For 2026, the TIB Berg 100 moves to its new home at Waterwoods Equestrian Venue & Cottageshttps://www.waterwoodsequestrianestate.co.za, a premium Midlands estate that blends rustic charm with a polished, welcoming race-village atmosphere. Waterwoods doesn’t just elevate the experience –it anchors it. With wide open lawns, beautiful surrounds and accommodation on-site, the venue creates a race weekend that feels like a true rural retreat.

Expect easy parking, slick logistics, and a festive finish-line setup you’ll want to linger at long after you’ve crossed the line.

A REWARDING ROUTE

The circular loop introduced in 2025 was a hit – cleaner, simpler and more rider-friendly. For 2026, that format returns with thoughtful refinements. Riders can expect non-technical gravel roads, rolling farmlands, and a sequence of climbs that test resilience without ever feeling unfair. The Midlands topography does what it does best: challenges you in sections, rewards you in others, and keeps you pedalling through scenes that make you want to keep stopping to take photos.

This is fundamentally a MTB race, but the gravel-friendly surfaces mean you’ll see plenty of gravel bikes and an increasing number of eBikes. Whether your aim is speed, completion or a shared adventure with friends, the TIB Berg 100 accommodates the full spectrum.

RACE OPTIONS

100km | ±2000m THE MAIN EVENT

The classic TIB Berg 100 distance is exactly what endurance riders want: long, honest and beautifully rural. You’ll earn every metre of ascent, but you’ll be rewarded with sweeping Berg views and that signature Nottingham Road energy.

67km BERG LITE – SAME VIBE, LESS GRIND

Perfect for riders who want to experience the event without taking on the full 100km. It starts and finishes at the same venue, carries the same festive spirit and offers the same scenic reward – just with fewer climbs and less fatigue.

A defining feature of the TIB Berg 100 is the deep involvement of local communities. Farmers open their roads, residents man water points, families cheer from gates, and volunteers fuel the energy at the race village. The event feels like a celebration of rural life as much as it is a cycling challenge.

This sense of belonging is what keeps riders returning year after year. You don’t just ride the Berg 100 – you become part of its story.

AFFORDABLE ENTRY FEE

In a landscape where event costs often run high, the TIB Berg 100 stands out for its remarkably reasonable entry fee, delivering one of the highest-value race experiences in the country. Scenic, safe, well-supported and professionally managed – the Berg 100 gives you a premium day out without the premium price tag.
